Body Fossils

Building off of Sun Earth Self and Moon Bodies, this year we focus on Body Fossils, the physical remains (hard parts) of organisms (bones, teeth, shells, wood) as distinguished from trace fossils, like footprints. We chose Body Fossils to focus on deep time, interbeing, and impermanence. As a regular practice, we’re beginning this experiment on Feb 1, 2026 the early signs of spring in some traditions (eg. celtic Imbolc) and the midway point between winter solstice and spring equinox. Body Fossils is a self-led daily practice within a community of people dedicated to following the same invitations into reflection, connection, placemaking, and auspicious coincidence.

Meetups

Recording observations focused on our own midlives, the body politic and the more than human world. To do so, we meditate on deep time and the rock cycle: erosion processes of rock, weathering (sun, wind, water etc), and uplift (tectonic forces raising the earth’s crust, allowing us to see rocks that were once deeply buried below the surface).

Questions might include:

    • What is fossilized that needs to be unearthed (fossils break down as soon as they are brought to the surface, for example through mining practices).

    • What is becoming known in this moment that was previously buried?

    • What is being neglected and what do I want to care for and what do I want to let go?

    • What is surfacing in my neighbourhood?
